AML-S905X-CC (Le Potato) Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS Preview Image 3

Our third Ubuntu 16.04 LTS preview image based on mainline Linux 4.13 can be found on the AML-S905X-CC product page. This release incorporates the following features:

You can download it and flash it to a 4GB+ MicroSD card via Win32DiskImager. If you run into any issues, please do not hessitate to let us know via our partner’s forum. There are some known issues that will be addressed before final images:

  • I2S is not functional
  • OpenGL ES 2.0 is bottlenecked by an unoptimized xf86-video-armsoc xorg driver
  • Monitor must support 576p since CVBS is enabled or you will get no video
  • Missing 4K support in the mainline kernel
  • Missing automatic filesystem resize
  • SSH host keys are not automatically regenerated
  • SSH is enabled and there’s a default password for the libre user
  • Kernel and other packages need to be deb’ed

We will re-spin the image to fix many issues once Linux 4.14 LTS is released. Android 7.1 running on MicroSD card will be released next week.

  1. having a problem with the le potato I had ordered off ebay when I plug in , I get no hdmi source on my tv and red and blue lights are on . is this normal and some kind of drivers missing or I need to research or was wondering if I had got a defective board….like I say the hdmi dosent show up or appear and on my raspberry pi it works every time…thanks!

    1. Hi Jason, We do not have any official resellers on eBay. Please see the download section for the product and flash your MicroSD card using Win32DiskImager.

      1. hey is there any official/unofficial forum for there sbc’s?
and what is the password for the Ubuntu le potato operating system? i cant find anything on it and none of the passwords that are for any other of your OS’s work for it.

  2. Default password does not work. Tried user :libre
    Password: computer
    Also root and password

    1. If you are at the XFCE login screen, it will auto select the “Libre” user. Simply type in “computer” in the password field without double quotes.

  3. For the image aml-s905x-cc-ubuntu-xenial-linux-libretech-4.14.11-g18ced7f2-dirty-desktop-2018-01-06.img ssh works for me with user: libre and password: computer to perform the first login. Had no HDMI output so far either.

    1. Certain CEA and DMT modes are not supported at the moment. We are adding more supported video modes to Preview Image 8.

  4. I noticed that if I hotplug any USB devices the board freezes so the mouse and keyboard no longer work. I’m trying to hook the board to wifi with a panda USB adapter. The USB wifi adapter also does not work if plugged in before boot.

    1. That is most likely a power issue with your power source. Make sure it can supply 1.5A + any additional power that USB devices consume. If the voltage supplied drops below 4V, the board will stop working.
